Description
This rutile on hematite is from Novo Horozonte in Bahia, Brazil. This locale contains sixteen different minerals but is famous for the rutilated quartz and rutile on hematite specimens found there. Hematite and rutile are both oxides. This specimen consists of a cluster of tabular, silver, hematite with sprays of epitaxial, golden, rutile crystals. The rutile radiates around the perimeter of the hematite. This piece measures 11/16 x 5/8 x 5/16 inches or 18 x 16 x 8 mm.
