Description
This rutile on hematite is from Novo Horizonte in Bahia, Brazil. This locale is famous for the rutilated quartz and rutile on hematite specimens found there. Hematite and rutile are both oxides. This specimen consists of a layered formation of silver-grey hematite crystals with sprays of epitaxial golden rutile crystals growing off each crystal. This piece measures approximately 1 7/8 x 1 1/4 x 1 inches or 48 x 32 x 25 mm.
