This rutile on hematite is from Novo Horizonte in Bahia, Brazil. This locale is famous for the rutilated quartz and rutile on hematite specimens found there. Hematite and rutile are both oxides. This specimen consists of a plate-like formation of silver-grey hematite crystal with sprays of epitaxial golden rutile crystals growing off each crystal. This piece measures approximately 1 9/16 x 1 1/16 x 3/4 inches or 40 x 26 x 19 mm
