Description
These rutile crystals are from the Graves Mountain Mine in Lincoln County, Georgia, USA. This open pit operation was mined for the recovery of kyanite. It contains 36 different mineral species and is famous for the world class rutile specimens found there. It is an oxide mineral that contains the elements Ti and O. This specimen consists of a pair of large rutile crystals on a mixed hematite and mica matrix. The larger crystal is over 50 mm long and it is double terminated with a mirror luster. The smaller of the two crystals is a huge mirror luster vee-twin almost 30 mm across. The piece can be displayed from several different angles/sides depending on preference. This piece measures approximately 2 3/4 x 2 1/16 x 1 5/8 inches or 70 x 51 x 41 mm.
