Description
This rutile and hematite on quartz is from Novo Horizonte in Bahia, Brazil. This locale is famous for the rutilated quartz and rutile on hematite specimens found there. Hematite and rutile are both oxides. This specimen consists of a crystalline quartz matrix that hosts small hematite crystals and sprays of golden elongated rutile crystals. There is remnant native clay in areas of the piece that appear pinkish in the photos.. This piece measures approximately 3 1/2 x 1 7/8 x 1 inches or 90 x 47 x 25 mm.
