Description

This rutile crystal is from the Graves Mountain Mine in Lincoln County, Georgia, USA. This open pit operation was mined for the recovery of kyanite. It contains 36 different mineral species and is famous for the world class rutile specimens found there. It is an oxide mineral that contains the elements Ti and O.  This specimen consists of a large terminated mirror bright crystal with a remnant hematite, kyanite and mica matrix at the base. This piece measures approximately 2 1/2 (length) x 1 11/16 (height)x 1 5/8 (width) inches or 64 x 43 x 41 mm as displayed in photo 2.
