Description
This rhodonite is from the San Martin Mine, in Chiurucu, Huallanca, Bolognesi Province, Ancash Department, Peru. This mine contains eight different mineral species including rhodonite. It is a silicate that contains the elements Mn, Si and O. This specimen consists of a mixed quartz and sulfide matrix that contains an exposed vug filled with bladed rhodonite crystals. The crystals have a rich pink color and glassy luster. This piece measures 2 1/2 x 2 x 2 1/4 inches (as displayed in photo 1) or 64 x 50 x 57 mm.
