This pyrite with rhodonite is from the Huanzala Mine, Huallanca, Dos de Mayo Povince, Huanco Department, Peru. This a predominately lead-zinc mine but 63 other mineral species can be found there including pyrite and rhodonite. Pyrite is a sulfide that contains the elements Fe and S. Rhodonite is a silicate that contains the elements Mn, Si and O. This specimen is made up of sharp well defined pyritohedrons of pyrite with partial coverage of druse pink rhodonite crystals. This heavy piece measures 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 2 1/8 inches or 82 x 57 x 53 mm.
