This rhodonite is from the Broken Hill District in Yacowinna County, New South Wales, Australia. The district contains a large Pb-Zn-Ag deposit that contains dozens of mines. Hundreds of different minerals have been identified in the area including rhodonite. It is a silicate that contains the elements Mn, Si, and O. This specimen consists of a mass of crystaline, silver-black, galena ( Pb S ) and cherry red rhodonite crystals. This piece measures 1 3/4 x 1 7/16 x 1 1/8 inches or 44 x 36 x 28 mm.
