Description
This rhodochrosite is from the Madan Ore Field in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Oblast, Bulgaria. This area contains several ore bodies that have been mined for hundreds of years. Dozens of mines were worked for the recovery of lead and zinc. It contains 75 different mineral species including Rhodochrosite. It is a carbonate containing the elements Mn, C and O. This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that is topped with sphere-like clusters and stalactites of druse rhodochrosite crystals. . It measures 5 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches or 133 x 89 x 64 mm
