Description
This rhodizite is from the Ampasogona Pegmatite in the Betafo District, Antananarivo Province, Madagascar. The specimens are collected by the villagers in the Highland pegmatites and are then sold in the local market place for collector pieces. It contains the elements K, Cs, Al, Be, B, and O. This specimen consists of a granular quartz and rubellite tourmaline matrix that hosts a 17 mm rhodizite crystal. The crystal has a pale green color and vitreous luster. It is partially exposed on all sides. The termination has an irregular edge due to matrix contact. This piece measures 2 x 1 7/16 x 1 5/16 inches or 50 x 37 x 33 mm.
