This quartz with hematite inclusions is from Izizauen, Tinejdad, Er Rachidia Province, Meknes-Tifilalet Region, Morocco. This locale is mined for specimens for mineral collectors. The inclusions of iron minerals including iron oxides can color the crystals in shades from yellow to red. These crystals contain the elements Si, O and Fe. This red variety is called ferruginous quartz. This specimen consists of a plate of lustrous crystals that contain heavy inclusions of hematite just below the surface. The inclusions give the crystals a rich red color. The luster is bright and the prism faces have complex growth. This piece measures 2 3/8 x 1 1/2 x 7/8 inches or 60 x 38 x 22 mm.
