This quartz with hematite inclusions is from Izizauen, Tinejdad, Er Rachidia Province, Meknes-Tifilalet Region, Morocco. This locale is mined for specimens for mineral collectors. The inclusions of iron minerals including iron oxides can color the crystals in shades from yellow to red. These crystals contain the elements Si, O and Fe. This red variety is called ferruginous quartz. This is a plate of lustrous crystals that contain heavy inclusions just below the surface. The crystal morphology is hexagonal and the prism faces have complex skeletal characteristics. The luster is bright and the crystal terminations are intact. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 2 inches or 90 x 63 x 50 mm.
