Description

These quartz and chrysocolla pseudomorphs of wulfenite are from the 79 Mine in Chilito, Hayden Area, Banner District, Dripping Springs Mountains, Gila County, Arizona, USA. The mine was primarily a lead mine and it contained 80 different minerals including the molybdate wulfenite and the copper silicate chrysocolla. This specimen is a sliced slab that exhibits pseudomorphs of chrysocolla included quartz that has replaced wulfenite crystals. There are some small black oxide dendrites on the bottom left as displayed in photo 1. The reverse side and edges have been polished revealing a translucent gem-like appearance that shows inclusions of chrysocolla, malachite and minor azurite in the quartz (photo 3).This piece measures 1 9/16 x 13/16 x 7/16 inches or 37 x 21 x 11 mm.
