Description

This pyrrhotite is from Dal’negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals including pyrrhotite can be found. It is a sulfide containing the elements Fe and S. This specimen consists of a mound shaped sphalerite and quartz crystal matrix with several pyrrhotites on both sides of the piece. There are stacked as well as coin-like cluster of pyrrhotite crystals that vary in color from gold to brassy to lightly iridescent. There are also some minor spinel galena crystals on the piece. Secondary druse quartz (white in photos) depositsare scattered about the piece. The piece measures 4 x 2 1/2 x 2 3/8 inches or 102 x 64 x 63 mm.
