Pyrrhotite – Exceptional “Coin” Like Crystal Clusters from Dal’negorsk

This pyrrhotite is from Dal’negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals including pyrrhotite can be found. It is a sulfide containing the elements Fe and S. This specimen consists of  clusters of bronze stacked and coin-like pyrrhotite crystals with minor galena attached. They have a sub-metallic to metallic luster and hexagonal habits. This piece measures 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches or 84 x 57 x 45 mm.
