This pyrophyllite is from the Bowlings Mountain Mine, Bowlings Mountain, Granville County, North Carolina. USA. Pyrophyllite is a silicate that contains the elements Al, Si, O and H. This specimen consists of masses of interpenetrating accicular or ball-like clusters of pyrophyllite crystals with minor hematite. It is a dense piece that also has a talc feel. These crystals have an attractive copper-bronze color and a pearly to micaceous luster. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 3 x 1 1/2 inches or 88 x 76 x 38 mm.
