This pyrophyllite is from the Bowlings Mountain Mine, Bowlings Mountain, Granville County, North Carolina. USA. Pyrophyllite is a silicate that contains the elements Al, Si, O and H. This specimen consists of masses of interpenetrating accicular clusters of pyrophyllite crystals on a crystalline pyrophyllite matrix. These crystals have an attractive copper-bronze color and a pearly to micaceous luster. This piece measures 6 5/8 x 5 x 2 1/4 inches or 168 x 127 x 57 mm.
