Description
This pyrite (pyritized) fossil is from Saratov, South Western Russia. This is a fossil ammonite, species Quenstedtoceras dating to about 162 million years ago in the Jurassic Period. It is both a beautiful pyrite specimen as well as an exceptional fossil. This well defined ammonite was found in a fossil rich sedimentary layer. It was then removed, cleaned, stabilized and coated with a protective lacquer. It has a bright golden color a metallic luster and displays from all sides nicely. It measures 1 3/8 x 1 1/16 x 3/8 inches or 35 x 26 x 9 mm.
