Description
This pyrite is from Navajun, La Rioja, Spain. The deposits in this area are cretaceous and are 65 to 145 million years old. This locale is famous for the outstanding crystals found there. They have sharp cubic habits, a bright golden color and mirror luster. Pyrite is a sulfide mineral containing the elements Fe and S. It can have a variety of crystal habits including cubic. This specimen consists of a marlestone matrix that with a bright gold, mirror luster, cubic pyrite crystals that is aesthetically perched on top. The larger crystal measures 7/8 inches on its longest edge. This piece measures 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 x 1 15/16 inches or 8.3 x 7 x 4.9 cm.
