Description
This pollucite specimen is from the GE-SE mine in Buckfield, Oxford County, Maine, USA. This pollucite occurence was mined for its use in the manufacturing of radio bulbs and I was told for light bulbs. Pollucite is a silicate that contains the elements Cs, Na, Al, Si, O and H.The cesium (Cs) in the pollucite was used to improve the longevity of the electric bulbs at that time. Later other elements were discovered for that purpose and the locale was closed to mining and collection. This a crystalline piece of pink colored pollucite from this mine. It measures 2 3/4 x 1 7/8 x 1 3/8 inches or 67 x 47 x 35 mm.
