Basalt deposits in this locale often contain vesicles and vugs that are filled with deposits of peridot like this typical specimen. Peridot is a variety of the mineral fosterite which is a silicate that contains the elements Mg, O and Si. This piece consists of a basalt matrix that hosts several peridot deposits with minor deposits of diopside, It measures approximately 3 x 3 x 1 3/4 inches or 76 x 76 x 45 mm.
