Description
This peridot crystal is from Sapat Gali in the Naran-Kaghan Valley in the Mansehra District of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. This is a mountainous area that contains 12 different minerals Including peridot. It is in the olivine group of minerals and is also part of the fosterite series of minerals. It contains the elements Mg, Si, and O. This is a fairly large crystal 29 mm long. It has a typical crystal morphology for the locale. It is translucent under bright light with an resinous luster. The back of the crystal photo 4 has a healed or water worn (or both) surface. It measures 29 x 21 x 15 mm. It weighs 53 carats
