Description
These orpiment crystals are from the Jiepaiyu Mine, Shimen Deposit, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture, Hunan, China. This deposit is the largest in Asia. It is mined for different arsenic minerals including orpiment. It is a sulfide that contains the elements AS and S. This specimen consists of a vee shaped crystal formation that is wedged between a small calcite matrix. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 3 1/8 x 1 3/4 inches or 90 x 80 x 45 mm.
