Description

These okenite crystal clusters are from the Pune (Poone) District, Maharastra State, India. This region contains several basalt quarries from which mineral crystal specimens are recovered. The basalt contains vugs and vesicules that can be filled with 32 different mineral species including okenite. It is a silicate containing the elements Ca, S, O and H. This specimen consists of a basalt matrix that is topped with sparkling druse quartz, gyrolite and silk-like okenite crystal clusters. The crystals are fibrous with silk-like qualities. They form accicular clusters that resemble dandelions. This piece measures 6 x 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches or 15.4 x 9 x 6.3 cm.
