Description
This native silver with acanthite and sphalerite is from the Kongberg silver mining district, Buskerud, Norway. This district contained dozens of mines that were in operation for hundreds of years. They contained over 100 different minerals including native silver. This specimen is a heavy piece consists of mostly native silver in crystalline plate, thick horns and wire form. The silver has a bronze-like patina. It has acanthite and sphalerite matrix attached. The piece measures 73 x 48 x 50 mm. It weighs over 12 oz.
