Description

These galena crystals are from the Sweetwater Mine, Ellington, Viburnum Trend District, Reynolds County, Missouri, USA. The trend covers an area of approximately 240 square miles. It consists of eight ore bodies that contain 23 different mineral species including galena. It is a sulfide containing the elements Pb, and S. This specimen consists of a massive chalcopyrite matrix that is covered with dozens of modified galena crystals. There are several morphologies present including; cubic, cuboctahedral, octahedral, twinned, and hoppered. The crystals are silver-grey with a blue/gold iridescent patina. They are on a chalcopyrite matrix. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 2 x 2 inches or 90 x 50 x 50 mm.
