Description
These mimetite crystals are from Santa Eulalia in the Mun. de Aquiles Serdan, Chihuahua, Mexico. This district encompasses a large area that contains over a dozen mines. Mining activities are primarily for the extraction of silver and other metals. There a over 150 different types of minerals in the district including mimetite. It is an arsenate that contains the elements Pb, As, O and Cl. This specimen consists of a limonite matrix that is covered with cauliflower shaped clusters of mimetite crystals. They in turn host scattered deposits of bladed barite crystals. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches or 70 x 57 x 32 mm.
