Millerite filled Geode from Halls Gap

This millerite is from the US highway 27 road cut  in Halls Gap in Lincoln County, Kentucky, USA. Over thirty different minerals can be found in the geodes extracted from this locale but it is most famous for the millerite filled geodes. Millerite is a sulfide that contains the elements Ni and S. This is a typical geode half with an exposed core that contains brass wire like deposits of millerite crystals. It measures 1 3/4 x 2 x 1 1/4 inches or 45 x 50 x 32 mm.
