Description
This malachite pseudomorph of a cuprite crystal is from the Chessy Copper Mines in Villefranche, Rhone, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. This was an ancient copper mine dating back to the middle ages that is famous for the secondary minerals of copper and other metals that were found there. This crystal is a sharp well defined pseudomorph of malachite (a carbonate – Cu, C, O and H) that has replaced an octahedral cuprite (copper oxide) crystal. It measures approximately 12 x 9 x 9 mm.
