This malachite is from the Mashamba West Mine in Kolwezi, Katanga Copper Crescent in Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This mine contains over two dozen different mineral species including secondary minerals such as malachite. It is a copper carbonate (Cu, C, H) that is found in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. This is a plate like piece consisting of stalactite/stalagmite growths of crystalline malachite. The crystals are small and have a glistening luster. It measures 4 7/8 x 4 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches or 123 x 114 x 45 mm.
