Hydroxylherderite Crystal from Linopolis


This piece is from Linopolis in the Doce Valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a cluster of large crystals of childrenite crystals. Some of the crystals host eosphorite crystal clusters or have partially altered to eosphorite. The primary crystals are large for the species. The piece measures 1 1/4 x 1 1/8 x 3/4 inches or 32 x 28 x 19 mm.

This hydroxylherderite crystal is from Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area is in the Aimores Pegmatite District and many outstanding mineral and mineral specimens are found there including hydroxyherderite. It is a phosphate that contains the elements Ca, Be, P O, F and H. This translucent crystal which appears twinned measures 13 x 8 x 6 mm.
