Description
This hubnerite is from the Pasto Bueno Mining District, Pampas District, of the Pallasca Province, Ancash Department of Peru. This area contains nine separate mines and the exact locale that particular specimens come from is often obscure. This district contains 28 different species of minerals one of which is hubnerite. It is in the Wolframite Group and it is an oxide containing the elements Mn, W, and O. This specimen consists of clusters of glassy quartz crystals and lustrous hubnerite crystals. They are dark red with flashes of fire when strongly back lit. They have a sub-metallic luster. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 x 1 9/16 inches or 70 x 64 x 38 mm.
