Description
These hubeite crystals are from the Fengjashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine) in Daye County, Huangshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, China. This is an iron and copper mine that contains over 25 types of minerals and it is the type locale for hubeite. It is a rare silicate that contains the elements Ca, Mn, Fe, Si, O, , and H. This piece consists of a quartz crystal whose surfaces are covered with secondary deposits of druse quartz and calcite which are in turn topped with tabular apophyllite crystals. They are all partially covered with brown hubeite crystals which form a nice corona near the termination of the quartz crystal (photo 4). All sides are in excellent shape and it can be displayed from all angles or sides.This piece measures 2 5/8 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 67 x 41 x 38 mm
