Description
This hemimorphite is from the Ojuela Mine in Mapimi, Mun.de Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. This locale contains 137 different mineral species including hemimorphite. It is a silicate that contains the elements Zn,Si, O and H. This specimen consists of a heavy gossan matrix that is covered with individual and single hemimorphite crystals. These crystals are translucent to transparent with a vitreous to glass luster. Some of the crystals appear to have inclusions of reddish iron oxides.This piece measures 4 7/16 x 2 9/16 x 1 5/8 inches or 112 x 65 x 41 mm.
