This hematite is from the Graves Mountain Mine in Lincoln County, Georgia, USA. This mine was an open pit operation that was mined primarily for kyanite, It contained several other associated minerals including hematite which is an oxide that contains the elements Fe and O. This piece consists of a jack-straw formation of elongated hematite stalactites. The hematite displays a varied and subtle yet colorful iridescent patina. This piece measures 2 1/16 x 1 x 1 inches or 51 x 25 x 24 mm.
