This hackmanite is from Kiran in the Koksha Valley, Khash & Kuran Wa Mujan Districts, Badakshan, Afghanistan. This locale encompasses a large area containing dozens of mines in which over fifty different mineral species can be found. It is a prolific producer of collector quality mineral specimens including hackmanite. It contains the elements Na, Al, Cl, O and S and it is in the Sodalite Group of minerals. This piece consists of a marble matrix that hosts 2 lavender hackmanite crystals, They are translucent under bright light and they have vitreous luster. It measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 7/8 inches or 45 x 32 x 22 mm.
