Description
This gaudefroyite is from the N’Chwaning Mines in Kurunman, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. The manganese ore fields in this area are huge and contain over seventy different minerals including the uncommon magnesium borate gaudefroyite,. It contains the elements Ca, Mn, B, O C and H. This specimen consists of a manganese ore matrix that hosts vugs and exposed veins of gaudofroyite with associated red andradite garnets.. This piece measures 2 7/8 x 2 1/8 x 1 1/4 inches or 73 x 53 x 32 mm.
