Galena – Spinel Twinned Crystals from the Elmwood Mine

These galena crystals are from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, USA. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including galena which is a minor ore mineral. This is a rare example of spinel growth galena from the mine. These elongated twinned crystals form a vee or Y shaped formation of crystals that have a bright silver color and metallic luster. This piece is a small miniature that measures 1 1/2 x 3/4 x 1/2 inches or 38 x 19 x 12 mm.
