Galena – Spinel Twinned Crystal Cluster from Dal’negorsk

These galena crystals are from Dal’negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals including galena can be found. It is a sulfide containing the elements Pb and S. This specimen is a blade-like formation that consists of interpenetrating crystals of spinel twinned galena crystals with associated calcite and chlorite crystals attached. The galena has altered recrystallized characteristics. They have a silver color and a sub-metallic luster. The rear of the piece is covered in chlorite and calcite crystals and small octahedral galena. This piece measures 2 7/8 x 2 1/16 x 7/8 inches or 73 x 51 x 22 mm.
