Description
This galena is from the Pachipaqui District of the Bolognesi Province in the Ancash Department of Peru. This district encompasses a large area containing several mines. There are 30 different minerals found in the district including galena. It is a sulfide that contains the elements Pb and S. This specimen consists of a floater type formation that is terminated and free of matrix on all sides. The crystals are altered by recrystallizing in hydrothermal solutions. These types of crystals are often called melted crystals. There are some sphalerite crystals with micro pyrite crystals on them. This piece measures 2 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/16 inches or 50 x 45 x 27 mm.
