Description
This galena is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is the main ore mineral. Galena which is a lead sulfide ( Pb, S ) is an associated mineral. This is a chain-like cluster of spinel twinned cuboctahedral crystals. They are silver-grey with a metallic luster and a light iridescence. They are terminated on all sides and appear to be a floater. This piece measures 1 1/16 x 11/16 x 3/8 inches or 27 x 17 x 10 mm
