Description
This galena is from Dal’negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals including galena can be found. It is a sulfide containing the elements Pb and S. This specimen is a modified, complex, galena crystal with complex stair step growth with cuboctahedral modifications. It has a bright silver color, metallic luster and well defined growth patterns. It also has calcite crystals. siderite and minor quartz crystals attached. The rear is made up of sphalerite matrix (photo 7). It measures 3 x 2 3/4 x 2 inches or 76 x 70 x 50 mm and it weighs 1 lb 6 oz.
