Description
This galena is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is the main ore mineral. Secondary ores like galena and germanium can be found at the mine. This piece consists of a complex galena crystal that hosts a small calcite. It has a bronze patina and also a skeletal cavity that has a nice blue iridescence. This piece measures approximately 3/4 x 5/8 x 9/16 inches or 19 x 16 x 14 mm as displayed in photo 2.
