Description
These galena crystals are from the Sweetwater Mine, Ellington, Viburnum Trend District, Reynolds County, Missouri, USA. The trend covers an area of approximately 240 square miles. It consists of eight ore bodies that contain 23 different mineral species including galena. It is a sulfide containing the elements Pb, and S. This specimen consists of a thin chert matrix that is covered on all surfaces with combinations of dolomite, quartz, chalcopyrite and galena crystals. The galena crystals have complex growth on the prism faces. The crystals is silver with some iridescence. This piece measures 3 1/4 x 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches or 83 x 64 x 45 mm.
