Fluorite – Water Clear Cuboctahedral Crystals on Quartz – Dal’negorsk

These fluorite crystals are from Dal’negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals including fluorite can be found. It is a halide that contains the elements Ca and F. This specimen is a fine piece consisting of a mounded cluster of elongated quartz crystals interspersed with water clear fluorite crystals. The fluorites display complex twinning with cuboctahedral morphologies. It can be viewed from all sides or angles. It is hard to capture the transparent quality of the crystals in the photos. This specimen measures 5 1/4 x 3 1/8 x 3 1/4 inches or 134 x 79 x 84 mm.
