This fluorite is from Fujian, China. At this time the exact locale in Fujian has not been identified in any detail. Fluorite is a halide that contains the elements Ca and F. It comes in a variety of colors which are determined by the amount and kind of trace impurities present in the crystal lattice. This piece is a floater with terminated crystallized surfaces on all sides. It consists of blue crystals that have complex stair-step surfaces and edges. The luster on the rear of the piece (photo 3) is not as bright as that on the display side. In form and morphology this fluorite is similar to the fluorite from Melchor Muzquiz, Mexico. This piece measures 4 3/16 x 3 x1 1/8 inches or 107 x 76 x 28 mm.
