Description
This fluorite is from the Denton Mine in the Goose Creek Mine Group, Harris Creek Sub-District, Kentucky Fluorspar District, Cave In Rock, Hardin County, Illinois, USA. Seven different minerals have been identified at this mine including fluorite. It is a halide that contains the elements Ca and F. This is a cluster of large interpenetrating cubic fluorite crystals. The crystals are deep purple with some translucency under bright light. The piece has terminated or healed surfaces on all sides. A few of the corners show minor cleaved but recrystallized growth. It is partially covered with calcite crystals. It measures 7 1/4 x 5 5/8 x 3 1/2 inches or 190 x 143 x 90 mm. This piece weighs over 5 pounds.
