Description
This fluorite is from Fujian, China. At this time the exact locale in Fujian has not been identified in any detail. Fluorite is a halide that contains the elements Ca and F. It comes in a variety of colors which are determined by the amount and kind of trace impurities present in the crystal lattice. This piece consists of a layer-like cluster of crystals that have terminated surfaces on all sides. They have complex stair-step surfaces and edges. In form and morphology this fluorite is similar to the fluorite from Melchor Muzquiz, Mexico. These crystals are deep blue with some purple zoning along the edges There are scattered deposits of druse quartz crystals present. The rear of the cluster is shown in photo 6. This piece measures 3 x 2 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches or 76 x 70 x 38 mm
