Description
This fluorpatite is from the Ze Pinto prospect in Aldeia, Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This prospect contains 10 different mineral species but is most known for the fluorapatite crystal found there. Fluorapatite is a phosphate that contains the elements Ca, P, O and F. This piece consists of several large (for the locale) interpenetrating fluorapatite crystals with minor muscovite present. The rear is the former matrix attachment point which has healed growth surfaces. Other areas of healed growth appear as dark areas in the photos. The crystals measure 3 x 2 3/4 x 2 1/8 inches or 76 x 70 x 53 mm.
